Remember these are standard setups. For more ideas scroll to the photo gallery below. Fixed width carpeting the standard width for wall to wall carpeting starts at 12 feet. 3 feet by 5 feet 4 feet by 6 feet.

12 feet 13 feet and 6 inches and 15 feet. The size of a roll of carpet varies according to its availability with the most common length being 12 feet. Standard lengths of carpet rolls also include 15 feet and 13 1 2 feet. Usually area rugs are available in the following standard sizes.

The purpose of this setup is to define an area. But if you need it for commercial purposes you can probably special order 6 foot carpets. If you want your carpet to last longer i recommend a carpet pile height of less the 3 4. It brings the surrounding furniture together in a cohesive design.

Notice the standard setup has most if not all furniture legs on the rug. The standard setup for these sizes are shown in the diagram below. On stairs i recommend a carpet pile height of 1 2 or less and a carpet padding thickness of 7 16 or less and a pile density rating of at least 8 pounds.
